Lyft Sustainability
Helping riders understand their carbon footprint
Cars are a threat to our planet—
Transportation accounts for a large part of our carbon emissions and if we want to slow down climate change, we must phase out these gas-guzzling vehicles. At Lyft, we recognized this challenge and made many commitments including carbon offsetting every Lyft ride. But not many riders understood how their everyday actions affected our environment. I saw this as a massive opportunity.

As a self-initiated project, I gathered support from Lyft's Identity and Sustainability team to educate riders about their carbon footprint. I led a team of engineers, researchers, and content strategists to build a feature called "Carbon saved". The goal was to get riders to be more environmentally conscious and reduce the use of single occupancy vehicles.
